Common is okay... He's one of the few soulful rappers out there, and I've loved Nas since Illmatic came out. I own every one of his albums. That song however is going to cause serious controversy once it starts getting play closer to the release of the album. As over the top as it is, Nas has always been a smart rapper. He can tell a story, paint a picture, get a point across etc... Its just a shame that rappers haven't followed in his footsteps over the years.
Gangster rap started off as a true reflection of society and spun out of control to what it is now, which in my opinion is the same message for 90% of the artists out there. Same with hip-hop. All it took was a few artists to make a catchy dance hook on a song for the others to see that theres a formula for becoming rich and its taken what was genuine out of the music.
Rap is the only type of music that if I don't like an artist, I don't like anything that artist does and vice versa. I could count the rappers on one hand that are alive and worth listening to.

where'd you copy and paste that from, I know you didn't type all that out! LOL.
a few thoughts:
-Nas' new mixtape is heat, I hope the album will be too, but it probably won't.
-Common is boring as hell now. He used to be one of my favorites, from Resurrection to Like Water For Chocolate. BE was cool. finding Forever was a snoozer. he didn't rip a damn thing on there, and the beats were boring. somebody needs to diss him, maybe that will get him motivated to start smashing verses again.
-Albums I've played recently:
The Roots - Illadelph Halflife(classic) Nas - Hip Hop Is Dead (average) Al Green - Lay It Down (vintage Al, best album of 2008) Main Source - Breakin Atoms (slept on classic!) DJ Quik - Balance & Options (not his best, but cool)
I agree with cusesince85, hip hop is weak right now. if Lil Wayne is the best.....damn. he was always one of the wackest out of an already wack crew(cash money). I mean, BG was better than that boy! BG! LMAO.
most of the veterans who have actually made good music aren't pulling their weight anymore either.
but a prediction - LL Cool J, yes the same man who has been coasting and putting out soft and boring music for 13 years, is gonna drop a banger. he has to. it's his last album, he's mad as hell, and he's gonna be motivated to show everyone why he was once considered the best rapper alive. just throwing it out there, hope I'm right.
