I am 6', and I heard someone say that 6' is only average. Now how can that be when 6' is in the 85th percentile? Yeah jackson5(your old screen name) 6 foot is not ave. !!!! In the last 10 years in the US it is 5'10" but overall going way back the ave in the US will go down to 5'8.5". It is all what year the debate starts from. Of course the tallest guy ever was born in 1918 and died in 1940 at 8'11.1" so that throws things off on the fact that males were shorter in the US long ago, which they were. But that is only one person in the guy named Robert Wadlow. Just a little while ago a guy from the Ukraine ALLOWED himself to be the tallest person in the world at 8'5.5". He has been the closest since Wadlow. Wadlow died at 22 while still growing and had the same problem many way tall people do. Andre lived pretty long and was still growing at death but was not very tall compared to the real tall guys, but NO ONE EVER COULD DRINK LIKE ANDRE THE GIANT SO HE IS MY FAVORITE !!!!. The guy from Ukraine has the same thing but is in remission and only going on 40. This is too long already but in the last 5 years your guys from Denmark,Norway, and that area will ave. 5'11" and therefore taller than US guys but overall going back a fair 50 years the USA wins at 5'9". Hey I was 6'3" and size 12 shoes in 6th grade, never grew much more than a few inches and up to 6'5' size 15 shoes(should have never started smoking in 5th grade)but I still go a month before seeing a person taller than me and I am 46 years old.

Dugga 6'5 is huge in everyday life. You would probabaly only be average on the basketball court though. Where did you go to highschool, did you try out for the team?

Dugga 6'5 is huge in everyday life. You would probabaly only be average on the basketball court though. Where did you go to highschool, did you try out for the team? Yeah I have been through it before on here, but a few repeat funny stories. I was in Little League at 6'3" pitching and Fathers would help bring their sons to the plate(and the kids were crying) cuz there was no way to know where my pitch was going except fast !!!!! My hands were big enough to throw fork balls, knuckle balls, and palm balls(these pitches are not popular anymore). I claim to have thrown more no hitters and lost than anyone alive lol lol !!! I would walk home 4 runs a game no problem,BUT would win many games too. We were a few games from doing a good job down at Williamsport, and a game I will never forget is winning a game 3-2 on a no hitter called due to rain, and the coach from the other team(#1) looked at me and just smiled and shook his head. I had thrown 2 "folly floaters"(a fake pitch that comes down like a slow softball pitch),the kids had swung the bat before it left my hand LOL LOL !!!!! And before I answer Jackson5's question,on a sad note it was in Utica,Ny that the rule for Little League pitchers during warm ups now wear helmets. During warm ups in about 1971 a third basemen was tossing the ball around like we all did back then when he threw to first and hit my life long friend in the right temple as he was warming up pitching, causing some brain damage, ever since then the pitcher wears a helmet while warming up. I played HS basketball in the late 70's for Josh Wright's coach Norm Stamboli when he coached at different HS. We were a class C school but for some reason had to play the top schools in the area for sectionals(I have never found out why that was, best guess was cuz we were all 6'3" to 6'5" all 5 of us from the same 2 blocks,in the late 70's and 2 could dunk, very rare to this be the case when there was no going to whatever HS you could, had to be all from the same area back then,so we were beyond good). Think about it a class C team these days is lucky to have a few 6'4" guys, not bused in,this was in the late 70's and our main team was all very tall with handle. I played and won against Josh Wright's Uncle Paul Wright(awesome player.taller than Josh with a great outside shot) to win the sectionals as a class C team against Proctor at least a class AA team.We went on to win a bunch of more games until a guy from a HS called Beaver River lite us up for 45 points in a 54-53 loss,it was a GMAC from the BYU game !!!!!!!!!!!!! I went on to play for Hall of fame coach Bobby Wanzer in College but being a big star from Utica,ny does not hold over to College basketball, ask Josh !!!!!!!!!!! Story over, there are guys who are 6'11" in Div 3 College basketball(I wanted to play Div 1 and didn't find out till I got to Div 3 why I didn't belong in Div 1),I guess if I went to Div 1 Prairie View I would have been the man in the late 70's !!!!!! But a long fun story I just told. Hey I played against Andy Van Slyke in HS basketball the later to be a MLB star, man could he play hoops !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was only a soph. then tho,but played him best I could and almost to a stand still till.........an almost teabag job on me,half a teabag then lol lol but hey he went on to be a MLB star, HEY I TOOK ONE FOR THE TEAM lol lol !!!!!!!

It seems like there is so many people in upstate New York that grew up in Utica and now live elsewhere. Anyone still in the area, lol? No... To be honest, the town is turning back around a bit, and the population rising again, but its primarily Eastern European immigrants now. Big industry all but left the region, and with that and the loss of Griffis, most of the area jobs went the way of the Buffalo. I grew up in New Hartford in the same house my mother grew up in, down on 12D next to St. Thomas Church, but we moved out when taxes got rediculous and headed up to the Forestport/Boonville area, where my parents live now. We moved TO a lake to lower the taxes ;D Oh and Dugga, the disease causing excessive human growth is usually acromegaly and causes large amounts of hormone secretion from the thyroid leading to prolonged and accelerated growth (if I remember correctly). Dugga, don't forget Mark Lemke if you're name dropping regional professional athletes. World Champion 2nd baseman turned minor league knuckleballer. Also Archi Cianfrocco from Rome (His Dad's sub shop makes some damn good sandwiches). Jim Deshaies from Massena, and I'm sure a few others that I'm forgetting.

Delpino(sp?), Tom Browning(Malone/LeMoyne), but the best I ever saw was a kid from Booneville in the mid '70's, Meagher. He was bound for the big leagues, but was tragically killed.

Brad Meagher, I knew his cousins, grew up in the Boonville area. He was apparently the real deal. So sad that it ended too early.
