Hey, look at that ... we all find something we agree on. Beer is supposed to cool you down after EATING chipolte, not drinking it. Since all are in favor ... we have a new man law, settled! I'll still probably try it at some point... Rogue hasn't been too wrong with any of their beers in the past, so I can't imagine they'd put out something that off the wall... my guess is the chipotle isn't nearly as evident as we're thinking it would be

VT, if you ever still read this, I'm checking out the Alaskan Red at Humpy's either tonight or tomorrow afternoon. I'll submit for review after said taste session.

i like to buy a 6 pack of woodchuck cider and a sixer of saranac black and tan or guiness and fill a nice frosted mug halfway with the cider then top it off with the black and tan. got turned onto it years ago at captain trips rain forest preserve in utica, like to drink it on weekends. i also drink keystone light as my "come home from work and have a couple of cold ones" beer. got hooked on that at softball games. would show up with a 30 rack of bud light or a case of rolling rock, and the team would have them gone by the second inning. lucky if i got 2 of them. and at close to $20 a 30pack it was a waste of my loot. next week showed up with a 30 of keystone light, cost me $9.99 plus tax and deposit, drank five durring the game and still had 4 left to take home. much better investment in my opinion. been drinkin the stones ever since!

So I tried the Rogue Chipotle Ale and I'm still trying to figure out what to think of it. You could definitely taste the pepper in the beer, but not really in a bad way. It just gave it a nice little bite and an interesting flavor that you don't normally get in a beer. I actually kind of enjoyed it, but I'm pretty sure that I could never have more than one in any given sitting.

So as I said, I hit up Humpy's in Anchorage for a few. Only tested a few, but they were all stellar.
The Alaskan Red that VT and AZ had talked about way back in the beginning of the thread was a treat. Its a red IPA that has great flavor to it. Good bitterness upfront, mild citrus finish, full bodied and overall up on my list of favorite beers I have tried.
I also hit up the Midnight Sun Mars, which is a Belgian IPA (Don't ask, I don't know, thats what they said and it seemed to be about valid). It was stellar as well, and hit at 8.7%, while not having a demanding up front alcohol load. Very drinkable and easy downing.
Last was a tripel from Midnight Sun. Probably my 2nd favorite beer of the endeavor and was well worth it. Stood up with the stuff from Ommegang for me, but it was no Chimay.

Here are some beers that I tried on vacation and over the weekend.
Willaimsburg AleWerks: Chesapeake Pale Ale (B-) Not a bad APA but not alot to it.
Willaimsburg AleWerks: Red Maker Ale (C-) American Red Ale with some unfortunate flavor flaws and watered down a bit as well. I'd avoid this one.
HeBrew: Bittersweet Lenny's RIPA (A-) IIPA with some rye and a serious malt and hop bill. Very enjoyable but slightly to malted for an IIPA IMO.
Dog FishHead: 60 minute IPA (B+) Nice IPA but might as well bye the 90 min its much better.
Lagunitas: Lucky 13 (A) Excellent American Red Ale very well ballanced try to pick one up.
Ommegang: Three Philosiphers (A) Quadruplet that was great but beyond my ability to fully describe.
Troegs: Sunshine Pils (B+) Great summer pilsner but not quite on par with Victory Prima Pils which I found just as refreshing and bursting with flavor.
Rogue: Dead Guy Ale (B+) Maibock that very sweet and malty, enjoyable. BTW IMO its not the best beer being brewed in the USA by a longshot. But still very good.

I'll be heading to this on Wednesday night... no idea if any of the breweries are planning to be showcasing any special offerings, but at $25 for 10 samples, I figure I'll be fine even if I'm just tasting stuff I've already had before... and actually I'll be getting 20 samples since my DD (my gf) doesn't drink beer... SCORE! www.newburyportbrewfest.com/

BTW I picked up a couple bottles of Allagash both Belgiuns, I'll have to check to see exactly what they were but I think one was a Dubbel Reserve and the other was a Tripel

If you can find it, I'd highly recommend picking up a bottle of Allagash Four... I'm not exaggerating when I say it might very well be the best beer I've ever tasted.

Finally got my hands on some Saranac while on my northern vacation. I liked the Black Forest alot. Their black and tan isn't half bad either.

All I can get down here is usually the Trail Mix and Growlers of BlackForest. The Black Forest is by far my favorite out of the mix pack and then its up for grabs with the B&T and the Brown Ale. O have soured a bit on the APA and IPA just because I can get excellent examples of these styles from multiple other breweries here.
